What you will be doing in this role
As a Registered Nurse in our PACU (Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit), your role is essential in guiding patients through their recovery after anaesthesia. You will work closely with an experienced and supportive team, reporting directly to the Nurse Unit Manager – Anaesthetics/PACU. You will be responsible for monitoring vital signs and managing immediate post-surgical concerns such as pain, nausea, and respiratory issues. Your expertise in anaesthesia will be vital in ensuring the safe reversal of anaesthesia, monitoring for any adverse reactions, and collaborating with anaesthetists to optimize patient recovery. In addition to your clinical skills, you will provide emotional support and reassurance to patients as they regain consciousness, helping to alleviate any anxiety they may experience during this vulnerable time. Your role will also involve regular updates to the anaesthetic and surgical teams, escalating concerns when necessary, and participating in ongoing professional development and quality improvement initiatives to stay at the forefront of recovery care.
This role is perfect for someone with 2-3 years of PACU experience and a solid foundation in anaesthetics. You’ll have opportunities to develop further skills in a collaborative, patient-centred environment, working alongside anaesthetists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals.
Whether you are seeking a full-time or part-time position, you will work Monday to Friday with the opportunity to be included in an on-call roster. Join our warm, supportive team, and help us provide outstanding care as patients recover in a safe and nurturing environment.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a PACU/anaesthetics setting, with strong patient care skills and a thorough understanding of post-operative recovery needs.
- At least 3 years as a Registered Nurse, providing high-quality clinical care in a hospital setting.
- Excellent patient assessment skills, able to quickly identify changes in condition and respond appropriately.
- Knowledge of anaesthetic methods, agents, and related equipment.
- Proficient in fluid balance, respiratory, cardiac, and haemodynamic monitoring, with the ability to act on deviations.
- Current NSW Nurses Registration and valid Australian working rights.
