What you will be doing in this role
Our patients rely on us not only for exceptional medical care but also for nutritious, well-prepared meals that support their healing and well-being. We’re looking for a dedicated Chef and Cook to join our Food Services team and help us deliver meals that make a difference.
As a Chef or Cook in our team, you will work closely with Dietitians, fellow Cooks and Chefs, and Kitchen Assistants to prepare high-quality, appetising meals for patients, hospital staff, doctors, and visitors. You will be responsible for safe food handling and preparation, ensuring all hygiene and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) standards are met.
These are Casual roles offering 3 - 4 shifts per week, on each day of the year. Shifts offer a variety of functions and responsibilities including food preparation, cooking, food presentation, meal plating, cold larder, texture modified food and allergen management. Shift times vary between 5am and 8pm.
Who we’re looking for – Chef position
- You’ll hold a Commercial Cookery Trade Certificate
- You’ll have a minimum of 2 years cooking experience (post trade qualification) ideally in bulk fresh food production or a large-scale food service setting such as a hospital, café, or commercial kitchen.
- You’ll have demonstrated knowledge and training in Food Safety, WH&S and dietary requirements in line with current legislation and standards.
- You’ll ideally have experience in purchasing, product specification, stock control, recipe and menu development.
- You’ll have good computer literacy with Microsoft Word and Excel, and familiarity with CBORD and Monika systems would be an advantage.
Who we’re looking for – Cook position
- You'll have at least 2 years of experience in food preparation and cooking, ideally in bulk fresh food production or a large-scale food service setting such as a hospital, café, or commercial kitchen.
- You'll be able to follow simple recipes and directions under the guidance of a chef, with an interest in preparing plant-based and vegetarian meals.
- You'll ideally hold formal training in Commercial Cookery and have strong awareness of food safety, hygiene, and manual handling standards in line with hospital protocols.
For both roles:
- You'll be confident operating industrial kitchen equipment, including bratt pans, kettles, combi ovens, and commercial dishwashers.
- You'll work effectively both independently and as part of a supportive team in a fast-paced hospital environment.
- You'll be self-motivated and take pride in producing high-quality meals that support patient care and staff wellbeing.
- You’ll have full Australian working rights.
