What you will be doing in this role

In this varied role you will care for patients across our Oncology, Stroke, Surgical, ICU, General Medical & Rehabilitation wards. You will screen, assess and diagnose speech, communication and swallowing disorders and implement patient centred interventions.

This is a Part-time - 3 days / 22.5 hrs per week - role. Shifts are Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. There is an additional requirement to be on rotating roster for on-call Saturdays (normally once per month).

 

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for a passionate and dedicated Speech Pathologist to join our team! Ideally, you’ll have experience in an acute care hospital or rehabilitation setting, but we also welcome new graduates who are eager to grow and learn in a supportive environment.

In this role, you will provide patient-centred speech therapy care that is evidence-based, including screening, assessments, diagnosis, and interventions for communication and swallowing disorders. Where indicated, you may also use instrumental dysphagia assessments, including FEES. Your commitment to evidence-based practice and professional growth will help you thrive with us. You'll have:

  • Knowledge of communication and swallowing assessments and interventions.
  • Experience with FEES and/or VFSS is desirable.
  • SPA membership, or eligibility to become a member.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Friendly, positive, and collaborative attitude, with a desire to go ‘above and beyond’ for patients, families, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment, adapting quickly to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Initiative and professional judgment in clinical decision-making.
