What you’ll be doing in this role 

Join our Central Sterilisation Services Dept (CSSD), as a highly valued casual member of the team to cover shifts when our permanent sterilising staff are on leave. The leave you will cover can be both short notice leave (personal / sick leave) and long notice leave (annual / long service leave). 

You will be part of a dedicated, large team of around 38 staff, who are passionate in delivering support services through the timely provision of quality reprocessed medical devices worthy of patient use.  The team performs its role with great joy, knowing they are supporting surgical, nursing, and other procedural teams to deliver the best in patient care, and they proudly maintain a strong track record of low staff turnover which reflects a supportive and stable work environment.  You may occasionally be asked to work your shift at the San Day Surgery in Hornsby.

Your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Actively uphold and contribute to AHCL policies, procedures, and compliance standards, ensuring the highest level of safety and legislative adherence.
  • Proactively identify, report, and respond to incidents, hazards, and risks to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.
  • Collaborate in team meetings, risk assessments, and continuous improvement discussions, contributing ideas that enhance service quality.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development by participating in all required and relevant training programs.
  • Play an integral role in fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous quality improvement within a supportive and high-performing environment. 

 

Who we are looking for

  • A self-motivated, proactive and positive person who is willing to learn and develop their skills.
  • You’ll have completed or be studying towards a Certificate III in Sterilisation Services – this is essential.
  • Flexibility and sound availability to work across a variety of shifts, often at short notice. Shifts typically start at 7am, 10am and 3pm The clinic is open from 6 am to 11 pm on weekdays, and 7am to 3pm on weekends.
  • Strong communication (both written & verbal) and people skills with demonstrated experience considerately & professionally communicating with patients, their families, visitors and your colleagues.
  • You’ll be systematic, able to prioritise tasks but also have initiative and critical problem-solving capability whilst maintaining great attention to detail.
  • You’ll be adaptable, eager to learn, and work well in a team-orientated, fast-paced environment.
