What you will be doing in this role
As a Registered Nurse on the Poon Ward, you will provide truly compassionate care, supporting patients as they navigate the challenges of cancer treatment, surgery, and symptom management. You’ll have the opportunity to build trusting relationships with patients and their families, offering not only expert medical care but also emotional support. Your role will involve administering medications, monitoring progress, and ensuring comfort, all while making sure each patient feels heard, respected, and cared for as a whole person. You’ll work closely with a dedicated team to create an environment of warmth and reassurance during what can be a difficult time in their lives.

Poon Ward, with its 35 beds, is part of our highly respected cancer services, where you’ll provide care in both oncology and palliative settings. Here, you will be a comforting presence, ensuring patients experience dignity and peace, whether they are undergoing treatment or receiving end-of-life care. Your role will centre on offering comfort, compassion, and understanding, helping patients feel safe and supported every step of the way. Whether you join us full-time or casually, you’ll be making a meaningful impact, providing the highest level of care to people who need it most.

Who we’re looking for

  • A Registered Nurse with at least 12 months of experience, ideally in oncology, haematology, or palliative care, with a solid understanding of these specialities.
  • A caring and empathetic professional who is passionate about supporting patients through their cancer journey, offering both medical and emotional support.
  • A collaborative team player who works well with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care tailored to each patient's needs.
  • An individual with excellent communication skills, able to provide clear, compassionate information to patients and their families, and advocate for their well-being.
  • Someone who is flexible and able to work a rotating roster, including weekends and nights, to ensure the ward is consistently supported.
  • A candidate with valid Australian working rights, who is ready to join a dedicated, patient-focused team and make a meaningful impact.
