What you will be doing in this role 

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Receptionist to join our Intensive Care Unit team. The Receptionist (internally known as ICU Secretary) will provide essential administrative and communication support to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the ICU ward.  

This role is pivotal in maintaining a welcoming, safe, and organised environment for patients, visitors, and healthcare staff. The position involves a variety of tasks under the direction of the Nursing Unit Manager including welcoming visitors, data entry, keeping our shared areas clean and organised, ordering stock and supplies, and will require both collaborative and independent action.  

This is a 2-day per week role. You must be available to work either Mon/Fri, Mon/Tues or Thur/Fri, with flexible start and finish times for 2x 8-hour shifts. 

 

Who we’re looking for 

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys connecting with others, takes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work, and thrives in a patient-centred environment. Experience in a healthcare setting is highly valued, as it demonstrates familiarity with medical terminology and the dynamics of a clinical space.  

  • Previous experience in an administrative or reception role, ideally in a healthcare or hospital setting. 

  • Strong organisational and administration skills with excellent attention to detail.  

  • Proficiency with office software, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). 

  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanour in high-pressure situations. 

  • Empathy and excellent customer service skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. 

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently when required. 

  • Familiarity with medical terminology and hospital procedures. 

  • A proactive approach to maintaining the ICU environment and supporting team needs. 

Above all, you will bring a warm, empathetic approach and a strong commitment to providing an exceptional customer and team experience.
