What you will be doing in the role
An exciting permanent part-time (16hrs pw) opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) to join our Cardiothoracic and Cardiology services. In this role, you will lead the design, delivery and evaluation of evidence-based education programs that support excellence in cardiovascular care, working closely with Nurse Unit Managers and multidisciplinary teams to strengthen clinical capability and improve patient outcomes.
You will provide hands-on clinical leadership through coaching, mentoring and precepting students, new graduates and nursing staff, while supporting orientation, competency assessment, and ongoing professional development. The role includes delivering education in key cardiac areas such as cardiac monitoring, rhythm interpretation, acute cardiac care and post-operative cardiothoracic management, as well as supporting the integration of new equipment, procedures and evidence-based practices.
As a key member of the clinical leadership team, you will contribute to quality improvement initiatives, audits and research activities, monitor training compliance, maintain education records and develop an annual education plan. You will also provide regular clinical support through ward rounding and collaborate with leadership to identify learning needs and drive continuous improvement across cardiothoracic and cardiology services.
You are a motivated clinician with a passion for education and a strong foundation in cardiac nursing. You bring strong communication and leadership skills, a commitment to evidence-based practice, and the ability to inspire and support teams in delivering exceptional care.
Essential requirements
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with minimum 4 years' experience in the role
- 3 years' experience in cardiovascular and/or cardiothoracic nursing
- Experience in education, mentoring, or preceptorship
- Strong clinical knowledge in cardiac care
- Excellent communication and teaching skills
- Postgraduate qualification in cardiac nursing, critical care, or education (or working towards)
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (or willingness to work towards)
