What you will be doing in this role

This is a 3-month contract (October to December 2025) opportunity to join a high-performing General Surgery team where you will contribute to both patient care and surgical research. The program provides mentorship from experienced general surgeons and academic supervisors, along with structured support aligned with the General Surgical Education and Training (GSET) selection criteria.

You will gain direct involvement in general surgical cases, including exposure to robotic-assisted procedures and perioperative care. The role is based in a high-volume robotic general surgery unit, offering experience across colorectal, HPB, and abdominal wall hernia surgery.

There is also the opportunity to be involved with The Australian National University. In addition to hands-on clinical exposure, you will participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and research projects.

 

Who we’re looking for:

You will be a motivated doctor with a clear goal to enter the General Surgery Surgical Education and Training (GSET) program. This unique role offers a strategic combination of clinical exposure (including robotic surgery) and research involvement, designed to strengthen your GSET application and surgical career trajectory.

  • You will hold a current AHPRA registration and have full Australian working rights
  • PGY2+ with a strong interest in general surgery
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic and professional development
  • Prior research experience is beneficial but not essential
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • You must be well organised, adaptable and willing to learn
  • Proven experience working in a team-orientated, fast-paced environment
